Welcome to my homepage. My name is Martin Hablützel and I am a Swiss underwater photographer. The love to the underwaterworld is the reason for my underwater photo and movie activity. The interest to the sea and its inhabitants was aroused already very early by the movies of Cousteau. 1987 on the island of Elba the dive fever got hold of me. In the meantime I became a NAUI assistant instructor and have done more than 2000 dives. Soon my biggest wish had been to capture the beauty of the underwaterworld in pictures and to bring it closer to non-divers. That’s why I bought 1989 my first underwater camera, a Nikonos V. After a while I started to extend my photo equipment more and more to meet the requirements of my high demands on quality of underwater pictures. At the moment I am working with a digital Canon 5D, in the famous Seacam-Housing. The lenses I am using are 15mm, 100mm, 17-40mm and 50mm. For the exposure I choose between the Sea&Sea and Seacam underwater flashes. Favorite subjects are sharks, squids, anglerfishes, reef landscapes and human- beings in the wet element. My local photo and film waters are the freshwater lakes of Zug, Lucerne, Aegeri and Zurich. But of course I also love diving in all tropical seas and the Mediterranean. In the meantime the slide archive has been enlarged to more than 25’000 pictures and the number is rapidly increasing. Are you searching for a special picture? My girl-friend Gaby shares the passion of water and scubadiving with me. On our common dives Gaby shows me very often beautiful subjects and she also acts as an underwater model in front of my camera. Inspired through movies of Luc Besson and Howard Hall I started with the underwater filming in 1999. I use a Sony TRV900 in a Sealux housing. Since then I amquestioning myself before every single dive: Do I take pictures or make a film? During several underwater model shootings on the Maldives and in the Red Sea I had the opportunity to make a lot of experiences in the underwater model photography in the ocean With my best photos I am taking part on various national and international competitions and movie festivals. In 1999 at the Swiss championship in Portofino (Italy) I reached the 3rd place in general and the 1st place in the wide angle category. In 2001 at the Swiss championship in the Lake of Zug I became second in general and qualified myself for the participation at the CMAS world championship in Marseille (France) in 2002. The participation at the CMAS underwater photo world championship in Marseille was the highlight of my competition activity so far. To meet so many marvellous underwater photographers was an exciting experience and I also made many new acquaintances and I improved my knowledge. |
